Does anybody know of an on-line reference to Belgian stamp paper types and how to identify them, especially on used stamps? Failing that, can anybody suggest/recommend a catalogue that may have this information? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Don't have any insight re online resource re Belgian postal paper types.

My "go to" resource for Belgian philatelic matters is the Catalogue Officiel de Timbres Poste. Which includes Belgium proper, the former Africa colonies, and Europa issues. The text is in French.

My edition includes two-page discussion of "Les differents types de papiers et de gommes". (The different types of paper and gums.). For example...

WG means polyvalent paper white gum.

GR means polyvalent paper green gum.

GE means polyvalent paper yellow gum.

GG means typo paper grey gum.

NOV means typo paper with white gum.

F means phosphorus paper.

FL means fluor paper.

Hopefully this is the info you are seeking.

Appreciate your reply. But is the info you are seeking?

If it is, will scan the two pages and email to you.

If you're interested send me your email address via direct message.

And I will email the scans later this week.

Hi Calstamp, I don't seem to be able to send a direct message. However; is there any way of identifying the paper types in used condition? The bulk of my collection is used so I was just wondering if there is any way of identifying these types of paper - UV lamp etc

Moose.

Am assuming that identifying paper types of postally-used stamps would be more challenging. However, let's allow the Forum to weigh in.

Will scan the pages on Monday. And attempt to post to SCF. Other Belgium collectors may find the info of value.

Martin,

Thanks!

I did write the paper page in the Belgian Dealers Catalogue together with Eric Mesdagh

To recognize these types of paper having used stamps is a lot more complicated! I had the papers for the Polish 1996 Zodiak definitives ready in 2001 - based on mint material! - but I am only just about to finish that for used Polish stamps ;)

Rein

PS

don't expect miracles....
