I have begun to use these in most of my remounting projects and am encountering an issue I've not seen anything about.

Palo is the US agent for these, they only sell five basic sizes with the customer needing to trim them down to fit. The material on these seems thicker than on other mounts. I am noticing many of the cut down mounts have a noticeable ding on the UL corner.

Could I need to get a new cutter with a sharper blade? This isn't happening on other brands of mount.

It does sound as though your blade may be dulling from use and requires that little extra to get started, or it may be the mount thickness is excessive for the cutter. Since it cuts other mounts ok it may be the mount thickness for sure.

I believe much of this is due to the material used in these mounts. Like I said, it isn't happening on any other brands I use.

I can understand Palo not wishing to have to bother with dozens of mount sizes; but my interest in using these is dwindling. Not having specific sizes is becoming very time consuming.

I have thought about trying these mounts but the lack of different sizes available in the US has kept me from it Perhaps if I lived in Europe....

Stamps 1962. UL corner after the cut with the clear foil on top? Thought of something to try. Turn the mount upside down, gum side up and try that and see if there is any difference. Worth a try on a scrap piece. At worst the ding will be on the bottom left and won't be as noticable if that is where the two are joined.

Too few sizes and difficult to cut does not sound like a recipe for success to me. I doubt these Davo mounts will succeed in the U.S. under those circumstances. In any case, there are other brands. Isn't the main advantage of Davo mounts that they are self-sticking and don't need to have the glue wetted first? With that feature, and if they could later be removed easily, I might be willing to deal with the difficult-to-cut problem (if that's what it is). But I'd want a wider variety of sizes - so I didn't have to cut them so often.

I felt obliged to update. I opened a new pack of these just to see if the same issue would happen. It isn't. No intentions on the corner where the horizontal cut is done. Go figure.

There may have been some issue with some minuscule greater thickness of the material on the pack I was using until now. Who knows?

These mounts lie flat and I have none of the issues I get with Hawids sticking out from the page now and then. I am remounting my German collections in some Schaubek standard albums. So far it looks good. Fingers crossed..

Stamps1962,

If you like what you end up with and can post a picture of a page of stamps mounted with these Davo mounts, I'd be interested in seeing what it looks like. These are "self-stick" mounts, aren't they? If so, I'd also be interested in hearing if you think that's a significant advantage or not.
