I need either confirmation of my plating or other suggestions on a recent purchase. It was labeled a Type V but I feel that was incorrect. My best guess is it's a Scott #24 position 96R5, type Va. I have found only one decent comparable (on the Siegel site) and the one shown by Neinken is very inadequate, but there are several clues that lead me to the 96R5:

1. It is obviously a 10th row stamp - bottom selvage.
2. Side ornament R is mostly complete.
3. The top left & right ornaments are faint and the teardrops on the corners of each are missing.
4. Mine shows a vertical line to the right of ornament P which though unclear appears to exist on the Siegel example.

Several other items are highlighted with arrows on the stamp below.

Caper, based on the Neinken drawing for this position I'd say you are correct--it shows the vertical line to the right of Orn P as well as the diagonal line running NE to SW through Orn H and H1 that your stamp has. The illustrated mottling pattern is also consistent with your stamp.

ETA: The strong dot in the margin at lower left is included in the Neinken drawing for 95R5.

Thanks Dudley. Always fun to hook a Va at V prices!
