I have a Schermack control perfin with 4 rows of 4 punches. Typically they are four rows on three punches. Any idea if this is real?

Welcome.
Stamp Smarter hosts the Schermack Control Perfins census compiled by leading authority Curt McCoy. It has a searchable database of all 95 known Schermack Control Perfins.

That reference only details the 9 punch control perfin. What I have is a 16 punch control perfin.

Go all the way to the last ones - there are several 16 punch types.
Also, why do you not post a scan ?

These are the 2 basic Schermack control perfin patterns.

Variations of these patterns are made by deleting punches, from the basic patterns, to identify the user.
