Kelleher does not specialize in big lots by any means and that should not make a bit of difference if they did.

I presume there is a great disparity between what she would get at auction or selling it to a non-dealer collector as opposed to selling it to a dealer. Assuming only the zepps are of any real value, what would one expect a dealer to pay for them so as not to be considered a scam? I am not siding the dealer who bought her collection, I am raising this as a discussion point.

hy-brasil, would a dealer purchase this said collection with just a tiny margin to make? Which dealer would pay full blown retail price for something he hopes to sell later? What's wrong with my presumption?

This thread gives me pause, and I caution there may be more to the story.

It reminds me of the thread with the OP claiming he was shipped purchases in an auction catalogue. That thread smeared the name of the same auction house, and turned out to be a fiction.

Mixed collections will likely get more money if they are organized and inventoried. This is always a challenge for those that inherit something and do not know what they have. It is not unusual for buyers to cherry pick items since they can be quickly resold.

To get maximum return more time will need to be invested (like any buyer would have to do) to maximize sales returns.

I disagree with this statement. Like this thread, it was quickly pointed out that there are two sides to any situation (in both threads question about both sides of the story were asked within a few hours after the name of the dealer was posted). I am unsure what else could possibly be done to communicate the situation more fairly. Some folks may read into a thread what they want, while other folks may draw premature conclusions; but that does not mean that the thread or community is at fault.

This venue allows members to post their opinions and experiences. In this case we have an inexperienced person who feels that were taken advantage of and from what they have related there are some questions that should be addressed. The buyer has a good reputation and like any quality company I am sure will welcome the opportunity to answer any questions and present their perspective.

Reasonable people will not question a company's intent to make a profit; it is common sense that a stamp dealer makes their money when they buy, not when they sell. And many of the experienced members here know the difference between a reasonable offer and a rip-off offer. No one holds a gun to the header of a seller; they always can seek multiple offers. And of course the community here is at a distinct disadvantage since we only have some images to look at; having the material in hand is the only definitive way to judge its actual value. Additionally, an experienced dealer like Kelleher understands the current marketplace and their ability to resell material. I hope a Kelleher representative will take the time to present their side of the story so that the community can make an informed opinion. I also hope that no one will form a final opinion until all the facts are presented.

Don,

Have we heard from Kelleher? And, was it really Kelleher to begin with? Somebody could have just made up some business cards to perpetuate a fraud.

Fair comment. The OP's concerns about dealings with Kelleher and other dealers are the issue of interest.

The forum is a good venue for discovery, we shall see what facts emerge.

Hi Jack,
I agree that there are many possibilities could have occurred.

In the other thread, I became suspicious when the original person posted a large number of posts in a row; this seemed like overkill and like someone who had an agenda. But we try to give folks the benefit of doubt and not make assumptions about other's intentions. I try to vet/verify as much as I can to keep the community free from those who are seeking to use it for bad reasons but there is only so much time I can invest. Luckily in the case of the other thread I was informed that the poster was railing against the dealer in another forum so we were able to flush out the reality from the original posters emotional ranting.

This thread is different, the OP is not running around posting on different forums nor are their other 'warning signs'. As has been pointed out, Kellehers reputation is very good and something does seem amiss. Hopefully and while we have not yet heard from Kelleher we will get this straightened out.

Hi everyone,

First,
I would really like to say thank you. The passion that everyone has for this underrated art form of a hobbie is just plain awesome! What I have learned in the 2 short months of this inheritance has shown me an amazing perspective for something I knew nothing about. So thank you all for having such passion to keep this hobby alive.

Second,
I never intended for this to become a thread that would cause negativity for any of you or Kelleher. I very much would like to switch that narrative. The only reason I mentioned the transaction in questions was to explain one of the contributing factors to the feeling of being overwhelmed. The other factors being size of the lot, lack of library resources, grandmother started dismantling the books, and a huge mix of US & foriegn stamps. I was having trouble getting pictures to load onto this sight. The pictures I posted of the Zepp stuff were saved on my phone from a text message. So I tried to upload seeing if they were the correct sizing. When they were a success, I thought 'Hey, let's see what the feedback about this is".

Third,
I am not even sure if Kelleher is aware. As I said, I never followed through with communicating to them of the situation. I was ignorant to the stamp world and to the fact that it could have negative effects on others. The person I met with was set up by Kelleher. Once reading the reaction of comments to this post, I have realized I need to let someone there know what happened. I am away on vacation until Monday, but I will absolutely reach out to Kelleher come Tuesday. I am sure to get this resolved.

Thank you again for all of your comments. This experince and helpful info has come from the only place it can, experience. We all have our own experiences and from this we wear uniquely different glass of perception. When we all are able to share are views and listen with respect, that knowlegde become the power to change any outcome.

I am posting 2 pictures. They are screen shots of my phone. One is the only email I can retrieve currently, again I am on vacation. The second is of a text message with the gentleman who purchased the stamps. I had him send me photos of what was sold, for me to reference later.

Again, I am not trying to bash anyone or any company. If in reading this I still leave you with a bad feeling, please let me know what could be done to correct this.

Thanks so much,
Dorothy

Worth $400 on eBay. Dealer buy price of $200 would have been nicer. $100 quick cash deal and we do not know the condition of the reverse on the Zepps. Considering the whole event I would kiss the c note and move on.
