I'm not able to identify this stamp. I don't think is intended for postage but I could be wrong. Has anyone else seen 1 of these?

Hi

That is a remainder telegraph stamp from the American Rapid Telegraph Company, circa 1881. It is Scott #1T16. It has a catalog value of 25 cents.

Thank you very much! I'd not heard of them before. That makes 3 new things I've learned today - stock transfer stamps,
revenue stamps, and now Telegraph stamps. I found 1 each in a large grab bag I got from eBay.

Jim, I've seen those Duplicate stamps, too. How were they used?
