Goat and fruit, printed by lithography, and issued by Dominican Republic on September 29, 1971 as one of a set of five stamps publicizing the 6th national agriculture and livestock census, Scott No. 682.

On September 29, 1936 Italy issued a set of eight stamps commemorating the birth bimellinium of Roman poet Horace (Quintus Horatius Flaccus). The low value 10c stamp (Sc #359) of the set depicts a flock of sheep.

Here is the 900 lira stamp (Mi #2611) from Italy's November 28, 1998 Christmas set of two.

From Michel Suedeuropa catalog, "Adoration of the shepherd; drawing by Giulio Pippi, called Romano (1499-1546), painter and builder. Number of sets issued: 3,000,000."

Somalia - Italian stamp overprinted for use in Italian Somalia - 1930

Issued as a part of a set commemorating the 2000th anniversary of the Roman poet Virgil's Birth and was overprinted for use in Somalia. The stamp depicting "The hearth" and the inscription on the stamp is taken from one of Virgil's poems and it reads:

"HIC FOCVS ET TAEDAE PINGVES HIC PLVRIMVS IGNIS" ("Here we have a hearth and pitchy brands; here a good fire ever blazing").

Several horses and a herd of sheep are shown on this 1987, 16c stamp of Transkei. Inscription at the bottom of the stamp reads, "morning pasture".

The mosaic depicted on this 2 drachma, Greek Christmas stamp (Sc #1002) of December 5, 1970 dates from the 11th century. It is from the Monastery of Hosios Loukas in Boetia.
