Hi,

One of the stamps issued for the Vesak festival in 2011 by Sri Lanka shows the holy site in Lumbini which is on Nepal's soil. The stamps however depict an Indian map. Allegedly Nepal protested the stamp and it was withdrawn after a few months.

If that is true I wonder how that would have worked since the stamp was part of se-tenants with the other 3 stamps of the issue.

Can anyone shed light on this ?

Thanks

That's interesting. Will this stamp still be listed in a Sri Lanka stamp list or SG catelog?

As a Sri Lankan, I collect Sri Lanka stamps and hope to collect them all one day. Should I try to find one of these? I wonder whether there are any of these stamps still available in the market.

PS. A few decades ago (in 1960/70s I think) another Buddhism related stamp also got widraw due to being deem offensive by some people because of the footprint it depicted.

The stamps are readily available, so only a limited number seems to have been withdrawn. Probably after a while only. Until then "enough" have been sold.

Can you tell which other stamp this is which has been withdrawn exactly in the 60s/70s ?

One other question, since you are from Sri Lanka: Can you tell me who the person on the attached stamp is. This stamp has also been withdrawn and a stamp with an image of the correct person has been re-issued.

I have tried with many sources so far to find out who the man on the stamp is, thus far, no luck.

@mzm84:

One more question: I am trying to get the other stamps from the stamp set of the above withdrawn stamps. While they value cheaply in my Michel catalogue for Asia, it is very hard to find them. Would you know a source where I could possibly purchase them ? The stamp set is called "National Heroes" and it is from 1983. Beside the withdrawn stamp there are 4 more and the replacement stamp in addition also from 1983.

Thanks for help.
