Apologies for the poor quality image, but hopefully people can see the stamp clearly enough. The picture is taken from a collection I'm appraising.

In this example the "n" of "cents" in the surcharge is inverted, appearing as a "u".

The variety isn't listed in Stanley Gibbons. Nor is it mentioned in Robson Lowe. Robson Lowe does make the observation that inverted surcharges are forged.

Has anyone else seen reference to this variety, confirmation or otherwise of its status?

SG commonwealth & Empire does not list it either. It appears as if the letters of "cents" were applied 1 letter at a time as the font is staggered. Hand applied fake? But why fake a stamp that cats under 10?

It all looks forged. The Letters & numerals don't have the same form as the genuine surcharge. The "3" especially. Forgers try out on the cheapest stamp. It may of been done 60yrs. ago or 10 yrs. ago.

Thank you all for your input, I will assign it a "null" value.
