I am interested in any/all early 1847-1860 Cumberland, MD postal history with stamps adhered. I am particularly interested in long-distance origins or destinations. Anything similar from surrounding towns in Allegany County, MD may also be of interest. What do you have???

I visited Jim's website last night. Unfortunately, nothing for me. I am looking for pre-Civil War material with stamps adhered. Early stamped postal history from Allegany County, MD is not easy to find. That is what makes the hunt more fun. Hopefully, everybody reading this will keep me in mind for this type of material. Although I am probably not the only person seeking this out, I can't imagine I have too many competitors.....BTW-Where are the #1 covers on Cumberland, MD listed on the #1 census? I have been looking for one for over 10 years, but to no avail.

Siegel just sold one last week in the Gross postal history auction - lot 18

Have you registered at Stamp Auction Network and set up a notification for "Cumberland"?

Rod,

The easiest way to find the No. 1 issue covers in the 1847 Census is to select the "Advanced Census" option, and enter Cumberland in the From City field, and MD in the From State field.

My search returned 22 covers from Cumberland MD. There were 19 with No. 1, and 3 with No. 2.

Good hunting!

Have a look at www.delcampe.net, a Europe-based www.ebay.com/b/Stamps/260/">eBay equivalent. Type 'Cumberland' under stamps and also under postcards should bring up some options.

Delcampe is a great site if you have not used it before.
