Lovely stamp, I plead ignorance on this issue,
Gibbons would suggest original state of die, 1850
No frame lines
Orange Brown?
White round void right of Queen's head?
No PLNNY listed

"Piecrust" Postmark 1 over V

Await experts opinion

Very interesting. Can you tell us where you got it? Does it have a certificate?

I just had a look at Lowe's Australasia Half Lengths section and my head exploded

He does have the following note (p.210) "Constant Printing Stone Varieties - Even the most prominent of these may possess, individually, no intrinsic interest but when two or more copies are found of the same flaw the possess real significance, since that class of evidence (over may examples) made it possible to identify the various shades found in the printings from each stone. One may go a long, long way before finding two of anything in this particular field."

Emphasis mine.

Further, I used Abacus Auctions search facility for the term pinny which produced zero results.

The spelling is PLNNY, not PINNY. I found this on a second edition, tatty, Lalier album, very early. I had to soak the stamps off the pages. I would say the color is red brown. Obviously no certification. It seems quite unusual. Was it an error? The white round void is peculiar. Appears genuine. Purves does not mention. I just wrote to Les Molnar, he may be able to assist

Bravo!
10 points for posting your query result, helps us all.

Negative: Les did not quote the source, it would be nice to know what reference material it came from.

From a lithographic stone of 12 ? (I think)
the first wore badly, hence your flaws, and....all the varieties expressed by Bobby.

Thank you for all your help and a big thank you for the link. To answer the question about the source. Les Molnar is the authority on this, having won gold medals for his Victoria collections and wrote books on it.
