Does anyone have any recommendations on literature which would explain how to plate the 1852 King William III Imperf issues from the Netherlands?

Yes. There is set of books, one for each of the individual plates of the issue written by G.C. van Balen Blanken & Bert Buurman. If I remember correctly the APS has all the books avilable
If I count my set correctly there are books for 17 plates - 6 for the 5 cent, 10 for the 10 cent and 1 for the 15 cent. There is also a set of loose-leaf pages for the 10 cent plate Ia.

I don't know if if is still available, but a long time ago I bought a CD: "de complete plaatreconstructies van Collectie van Swieten de Blom", by Ronald Bouscher. The copyright is 2001.

It contains high quality scans of all 1700 positions.

If you don't know what you are looking for, it can take quite a while to narrow down the position, but it is good for seeing exactly what a variant looks like.

Thanks everyone, you gave me a lot of great information, and a reason to consider joining the APS since those books are hard to find at any price.
