Hey everyone,
New here to the stamp world! I recently acquired a MASSIVE stamp collection. And by massive, I mean thousands and thousands of stamps. I have no idea where to even start. It is a WORLD-WIDE collection, plate block books, Israel stamp books, Iran stamp books...a bit overwhelming (in a fascinating way!). I am sure I will be posting more as I dig into it all. But found this stamp in a special folder yesterday. Does anyone know anything about it or why it would have been hidden away?? I am not too worried about the worth as I know worth with stamps is all in the eye of the beholder, but I find this collection so full of history - it is fascinating!
Thank you!

I am guessing that the owner saw it as an error stamp rather than a poorly centered stamp although the line blurs at times.

Just to put things into perspective, many collectors here, would have collections in the tens of thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands.
A few thousand stamps, is merely a beginning.
Russia alone would top 10,000 stamps or more.
Enjoy the ride.............

Hundreds of thousands!!!???? WOW! Yes, this collection has to be in the tens of thousands, but surely not hundreds, although I have not counted and never will be able to! Ha!

Gotcha on the error vs. poorly centered stamp. I guess I have even more research to do with what the difference is! The collector had quite a collection of these kind of stamps, so I will have to research when it is a good thing and when it is not. So much to learn!

Thanks for the replies!

Very general rules:

When the perfs bisect the stamp, you have a collectible error of some value, eg, U$D 10s or above.

When the complete line of perfs falls just inside the design, you have a minor collectible error.

When the perfs only cut into the very edge of the design, you have a damaged stamp.

You find yourself with a minor collectible error. Cool!

Cheers,

/s/ ikeyPikey
