Chances are the stamp picked up the pinkish color from the envelope or paper it was affixed to. But it looks so consistent. I need to ask. Has anyone found a 3cent small queen on pinkish paper?

Hi Moyock13
Never seen one, but one explanation could be it was attached to a pink envelope (shown below) and the envelope bled on the stamp while soaking..Just a thought.

Since the color is apparently stronger on the back vs. the front, I would agree with your and Wert's suspicions.

When I was a kid I soaked many stamps off of pink envelopes that came from where my dad worked. Of course the paper and ink was modern, and the pink transferred into the stamp differently than in photo. That is, they were slightly blotchy or streaky with the pink, and never perfectly uniform.

pink = (not a very good) portmanteau for pink ink, just like our emoji Pinky here would tell you.
