On October 17, 1998 Lithuania issued a set of two "Paintings" stamps. The lower value 70 centas stamp (Sc #613) depicts All Night Long by Antanas Zmuidzinavicius (1876-1966).

Here is the 3.00 kroner value (Facit #1062) from Norway's June 7, 1989 two-stamp set commemorating the 250th anniversary of primary schools in the country. A young girl is depicted writing her first letters.

On December 7, 1987 Liechtenstein issued a set of Christmas stamps showing old miniatures depicting the four Evangelists of the Bible as scribes. Here is the 35c value (Sc #873) of set featuring Matthew. Each of these stamps also show the apostle's associated symbol, in this case an angel, in the upper right portion of the miniature.

Here is Finland's March 27, 1992, 3.50 markka stamp (Facit #1165) promoting "healthy brains".

From Facit, "(It) is Finland's contribution to the international 'Decade of the Brain' project."

Here is Germany's March 1, 2007, 55c stamp (Mi #2592) commemorating the 400th birthday of Lutheran theologian and hymn writer Paul Gerhardt (1607-1676). Painting of Gerhardt is by Emil Froehlich (1862-1950).

On August 10, 1989 Germany issued this 100 pf stamp (Mi #1435) promoting children's welfare. Children are depicted building a house, and one of them is a planner or architect.

This 32c stamp (Sc #3183L) of the USA is from the February 3, 1998 "Celebrate the Century - The 1910's" sheet of 15 different designs. Stamp shows a person working on a crossword puzzle...with a pencil, of course. Imprint on back of stamp states, "Newspaperman Arthur Wynne created the first crossword puzzle. It appeared in the New York World on Sunday, December 21, 1913."
