Now those "personalized number plates" put this right over the top - IMHO.

The vanity plates said "FELON".

I followed the article link and was gratified to see that the perpetrator received a four year sentence for the crimes.

I never understand the purpose of vanity plates. In my commute I see so many that say something like "MY LEXUS" to put on their Lexus.... makes no sense. But I guess it is just a mindset of being vain.

Glad to see they got caught and punished.

This story seems to not make a whole lot of sense. Here is the basic outline.

First, get your hands on 700,000 used stamps still on the envelope for no more than a tiny fraction of face value delivered to your house.

Second, remove 700,000 stamps from envelopes.

Third, wash the cancellation off 700,000 stamps.

Forth, put them on "greaseproof paper to make them appear as if new"

Fifth, sell 400,000 face value of stamps that have no gum on eBay and Amazon "Just over 215,000".

I'm thinking there is a lot more hype than facts in this story.

At least eBay and Amazon are happy having made a few pence on all those transactions....

On the subject of vanity plates, I take my elderly aunt for her periodic visits to her ENT (Ear Nose Throat) Doctor. He doesn't drive a BMW, but his license plate reads "SAY AHH." I wonder if he was able to claim the added cost as advertising.
