The sun depicted in a stamp for the European Environment Year, 1987. The hand suggests that energy from the sun could be harnessed, and nowadays solar panels can be effective almost anywhere.

This is actually what Kua Fu was trying to do, controlling the sun and let it serve the mankind. It's so great that we have realized the dreams of our ancestors at last!

There are 6 mice hidden in this stamp of the year of rat 1996! I didn't see them, neither even the big sun in the center until I read the design memo yesterday. The big Chinese character in the sun is Mouse, which is a hieroglyph imitating a mouse with whiskers, legs and a tail.

Jean Follon's (1934-2005) painting of a hand reaching for the sun seems surrealistic but maybe he wanted to suggest that the sun's energy is there for the taking, we just need to figure out how. 2004
