New USPS Big Bend Priority Mailer

The UPSS (United Postal Stationery Society) is once again offering a less-expensive way to acquire a new USPS postal stationery item, to wit:

Quote:
The United States Postal Service will be issuing a new Priority Mailer in conjunction with the new 2020 rate increases effective January 18, 2020. This time it is the $7.75 Big Bend Priority Mailer. The Postal Service is offering these mailers in a minimum quantity of 5 at a price of $38.75 plus $1.25 shipping which brings the cost of obtaining just one of these to $40.00.

The UPSS is obtaining a limited quantity of these priority mailers and is again offering UPSS members an opportunity to obtain this multi-packaged item inexpensively. The cost is $11.00 each and includes free mailing to USA addresses only. Make check payable to "UPSS" drawn on a USA bank or through PayPal sent to upsspubs@aol.com.

International members Please contact the Publications Office below for mailing cost and shipping information to non-USA addresses.

Please allow a minimum of 3 to 4 weeks after the official issue date before receiving your order.

For additional information, contact the Publications Manager at upsspubs@aol.com or write to:

Let me get this straight. They charge $38.75 (5 x $7.75) plus $1.25 shipping for the pre-paid priority mailers. But as a special offer, you can get one $7.75 mailers for $11 with free shipping? That sounds like it is actually $3.25 for shipping.

Whereas I can order padded flat-rate priority envelopes for free, no shipping charge at all.

Pack of 5 = $40 or $8 each including shipping (from USPS) from what I can tell.

United Postal Stationery Society is buying this item in packs of 5, which is the only way the USPS sells them, for $40. It is then breaking up the packs and reselling single examples to Society members for $11 each. This relieves Society members of the burden of paying $40 when all they want is a single example. Make sense? And they want the item with the Big Bend impression, not the free blanks you're talking about. Since it's a service of the Society to members, of course they're going to charge more than $7.75 face or $8 face (with shipping).
