I have this cover and wanting to know what M.S. stands for in the round cancel? I was told Monodnock Station. Looks like Oct. 1, 1883. Any details on this station also would be appreciated!

Madison Street Station

See the excellent "Chicago Postal Markings and Postal History", by Leonard Piszkiewicz, page 291 in particular for similar illustration.

Great! Thanks for the quick reply. Was there a Monodnock station?

Yes, there was.

Postal Bulletin #5900, dated July 5, 1899 announced several Chicago station changes including "Sub-station No. 57, to Monadnock Station." (Effective July 1, 1899.)

Postal Bulletin #7744, dated July 27, 1905, "On October 31, 1905, discontinue Board of Trade and Monadnock Stations of the Post Office at Chicago, Ill."

Here are the Columbia and International machines from Monadnock Sta, used consecutively.
