From my USA postal history collection, here are examples of postage due mail that could not be collected on the money due the post office, so the postage due was voided. Linus

First attempt failed and due stamp voided. Sent unsealed as single piece 3rd class, typical of holiday cards, and saved 1 cent. Both stamps are the dry-print variety. |

Morning all, Here is an example of voided postage due on a registered cover. The ten cents covers the unpaid but requested optional return receipt fee. Four cents first class postage and sixty cents registration fee make up the balance of the franking. This item could not be delivered and was returned to sender. Any guess on which post office voided the first PD stamp and added the second? Also, why was the first(?) ten cent stamp voided? Thanks again to Don for downsizing these images: |

Quote: only second time ever, I have seen a Postage Due Meter stamp Rod, If you, or anyone else, would like to add a postage due meter stamp to your collection, PM me. I have a lot of duplicates but unfortunately they are the same design from the same meter. I'll post some of my voided postage due meters later. They're not as easy to find, Dan |

Hi Dan, yes please, I would very much like a Postage Due Meter for my collection. My only example I gave away to a member here, and have regretted it since, it would have made a nice album page for my IRELAND, Thank you very much. |

Ooo! Ooo! I don't like to be left out either! Here's mine... ...though not voided, so I guess it doesn't qualify for this thread.. Interesting how the meter design changed very little in almost 20 years. |

Rod, I'm glad they made the "traverse" safely! (inside joke). The meters I sent you are on business reply mail. I wish I had a complete cover. I'm not sure if they are cover fronts or if they just had information attached that was removed. Looking forward to my stamps! Dan |

Jamesw, Quote: Interesting how the meter design changed very little in almost 20 years. There actually are a number of postage due meter designs but the Pitney Bowes meter is the most common: https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Unite..._Postage_DueDan |

All of these postage due meters are in red. Somewhere amid hundreds of covers I have one in green. I seem to recall that it's on a WWII censored cover, possibly coming from Ireland, ironically. |

Revcollector, Red is by far the most common ink. There are others however. From the Meter Stamp Catalog: "Most Postage Due meter stamps are printed in red but green is not uncommon, and, in ascending order of scarcity, blue, orange, purple, and black stamps are occasionally found." Dan |
