Here is another view of Fernbridge, which I showed in this post on the 2nd page of this thread, http://goscf.com/t/71699&whichpage=2#654028Upon completion (1911) it was the longest concrete bridge (1320 feet) in the U. S. It was also the only bridge left crossing the Eel River after the Dec 1964 "1000 year" flood. Mailed from Shively (Humboldt County, Cal) aboard the Arcata & Elinor RPO, a scarce marking although someone has ripped the stamp from the card. |

Here's another view of Fernbridge after its first flood. Opened in 1911, it was named the "Queen of Bridges" and is still the longest functional poured concrete bridge in operation in the world.[2] The bridge survived floods in 1912, 1913, 1914, 1915, 1937, 1953, 1955, 1964 and 1986.[4] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fernbridge_(bridge) |

Those are all very neat! I especially like the covered bridge in Eufaula -- I've never seen one that long! I always thought covered bridges were meant for protection from snow. I don't know why you would need that in Alabama. |

I know that I've posted this pc previously but can't find the picture side of the card in my previous uploads. Did find a cropped postmark for the card on pg 6 of my 11, but not the Bridge. A rustic bridge in Eureka, Cal's Forest Park, posted about 20 miles north of Eureka. The post office in Bulwinkle opened 7 May 1909, name changed to Crannell 9 Sep 1922. |
