As common as hot chips.
I know it as the "killer" part of a duplex handstamp
The CDS (Circular date stamp) part, sits to its left.

There are differing varieties, the details I am not privy to.

The stamp, featuring an allegorical figure of Australia, was issued on 22 December 1890.

The 2.5d rate was the standard international letter rate.

NSW joined the UPU in 1891.

It may be worth your picking up a cheap, used catalogue, or accessing one via your local library.
