Is this a real stamp? I did a quick glance through Spain in the Scott catalog and didn't see it. Any ideas?

Looks like one of the many unofficial issues during the Civil War period, for the city of Lugo. If so, it will not be Scott listed, but might be in the Edifil catalog.

OK, I was able to locate some additional info.

It is a Civil War Propaganda stamp issued for Lugo. It was issued in panes of 50 (5x10). In the full pane, the 6th stamp in the 3rd row is inverted. I don't know if that happened for all the printing, or only a few panes.

But my guess is that the inverted stamp was likely deliberate (my opinion). Here is a pilfered small pic:

I agree with k's general i.d. I didn't find it in a quick look through Edifil's Spain and Dependencies. Some Civil War issues are listed in my version, but most of the thousands upon thousands that exist are not listed there.

The following link goes to a catalogue reproduction of Spanish stamps that may well be in the public domain. It certainly isn't a current publication. Only follow this link if you have several hours to spend...it's amazing:

Hope this is useful. (I don't believe in trampling on others' copyrights...if someone knows that the information at this link isn't public domain information, please let me know.)
