Just wondering what makes these stamps so collectible and for sale for way more than FV?

Where are they for sale at "way more than FV"? The current Scott Catalogue value is 75˘ or double face which is normal for Scott. If it is on E-Bay, there are many things for sale on E-Bay at prices which bear no relation to the real world.

wtcrowe: These stamps are for sale for double the face value on eBay. It's puzzling why Andy Warhol stamps command such a premium when he isn't exactly a household name.

Nothing unusual. Check any other modern stamp. Or check Mystic.

While you are correct that most Warhol panes on eBay sell for around $15, there are exceptions. I found 5 panes that sold for less than $10 (shipping included). One for $9.95, one for $8.90, one for $8.70 and two for $7.99. The last two basically sold for 50 cents over face value.

Petert4522: What makes this issue consistently sell for such a premium over FV?

I would not consider double face an unacceptable amount for a modern stamp. Andy Warhol may not be a household name to you, but to many people interested in pop culture and modern art he is. There are people who collect topics such as this. Consider that labor has gone into the handling of stamps for sale on E-Bay. When you were concerned about the asking price being too high, I assumed you were talking about an asking price of $2 or higher for a stamp, not double face value.

Most modern stamps on eBay sell for face value or less, exclusive of shipping.

Another exception is #3193-97, which consistently sells for more than double face value, despite being issued in a quantity of 250,000,000. Perhaps people buy these panes and blocks and frame them.

First off its eBay, and the sellers usually post high. If you go to any local stamp shows...(when we can get out again) I constantly find new stamp issues 20-30% less than face value.
Hope you have some around you and you can make your dollar stretch
