Here is a recent hour long video chat on traditional vs modern collecting. It starts off as an intro to the Rhodesian Study Circle and provides the presenter's opinions on web site design, etc.

Everything I heard in this video has been discussed literally for years in this and other forums, but I am glad it finally gaining additional acceptance.

As ikeypikey said elsewhere, sometimes events accelerate the future and the resisters have to act.

Acceptance is the critical word. Collectors ahead of the technology curve are understandably impatient with adapting technology. The global pandemic is going to force adaptation. Necessity is the mother of invention.

Hi Scott and all now enjoying our digital world. Welcome from one who by necessity has been mostly limited to mail and digital enjoyment of our hobby for years. Two points if I may?

One, no one group or organization or web site will dominate our hobby in the future.

Two, collectors and collections come and go over the years. Someday we all will close our albums one last time. We are all just temporary trustees of the treasures we own. The greatest contribution to the future of our hobby we each can make is to document our collections and research in digital documents that will educate and entertain those to come in future years.

Best regards, Russ

I'm spending entirely too much time in front of a computer screen these days, what with all my local volunteer activist work. Managed about 4 minutes of this and had to bail out. Can someone who has viewed it all post a one paragraph summary? Thanks much.

There was some time spent on discussing web site design and the 3 second rule (time o get someone to explore more). It should look modern and kept up to date. One example is do not post internal group information (like officers, tributes to some members, etc) on the main page or look like the site had not been updated in 3 years.

As said, much of this is not new and realize some clubs struggle with online presence. The presenter's group uses WordPress rather than some homegrown site and they had a Facebook page too. He did not mention it but you want a responsive design (something that works on many devices).
