I bought a very advanced Switzerland stamp collection and on the early cantonal stamps there was this classic Basel dove stamp. I would like to have an expert opinion if it is genuine?

To get an expert's opinion the stamp needs to be expertised. Until it is expertised, in the back of your mind you will always think that it may be genuine, even if 10 people here will tell you otherwise. The only other option is to become an expert in the area yourself.

Sorry, cannot say anything about the stamp.

I'm no expert, but a book I have entitled "Distinguishing Characteristics of Classic Stamps" gives a detailed list of characteristics of genuine stamps.

Your stamp differs substantially from the diagram in several ways. For example there should be a dash between POST and BASEL. I suspect your stamp is probably a forgery.

Genuine and forged doves are illustrated here:

Many forgeries still have considerable value to collectors.

I watched an auction on 21st September 2014 with an identical print to yours.
(Excepting had the top cut off)
It was advertised as RRRR genuine $19,000
It had 11 bids by the time I nodded off, reaching $25
Unaware of the final price.

Might it be a proof? My Scott says proofs of this stamp are black, vermillion and green. Value, $6000 (2013 Classic catalog)

If I say it is fake ,then I can back it up ,because I collect the Swiss Cantonal Administration stamps . I find it insulting for someone to say the opinions here are not expert quality . especially if the expert/collector is not a keyboard expert- internet searcher .

I did not intend to insult anybody, or to say that the people who are provide their opinion on this site are no experts.

I've been here long enough to know how knowledgeable you and many other folks here are, and truly respect and appreciate everybody help and advise.

However, most people asking for expert advise do not know the level of expertise of the person responding, and frankly many fakes cannot be identified by the scan alone.

I'm just trying to save this person from doubts, and promote stamp expertising.
