The Christmas seal is fine...they haven't captured my interest yet, but you can never rule out such things. Now that aid for Russia label...kind of rudimentary, but very interesting. Thanks for sharing.

Way to go Phil! keep those Cinderellas posted How are we to know the "Ally" stamp is African? First time I have seen that one, a ripper! The Christmas seal, I collect under "TB Seals" but they fit both topicals. They were also bilingual And to keep the thread humming along, some South African "Political" Poster Stamps. |

Were they se-tenant bilingual? Or separate panes? Or something else entirely? That Afrikaans 1941 would look nice next to Phil's English one...hmmm. |

Great Cinderellas Phil, They have a lovely story. The "comforts" fund rang a bell, and I had to search High and Low but came across this Australian connection.
Like the Red Cross the Australian Comforts Fund (ACF) was born in the First World War. It is most famously known from the endeavours of its largely female volunteer members who knitted a staggering 1.3 million pairs of socks for the troops at the front. In the Second World War the sock tally more than doubled to and estimated three million. ACF volunteers also provided, shirts, vests and pyjamas. The ACF also set up clubs and hostels where soldiers on leave could find provisions, meals and accommodation and entertainment. The ACF also raised funds to assist with providing comforts for soldiers overseas foodstuffs and writing materials and the like. Of the £28 million raised in patriotic funds during 1939-45, over half was raised by the Red Cross and ACF. The provision of medical assistance tended to be left to the Red Cross.
While the needs of servicemen were pandered to, it is surprising that this largely women's volunteer organisation failed to recognise a similar need did for servicewomen; it was not until 1943 that a hostel for servicewomen was established in Sydney by the ACF.
