azstampguy, already, pointed out that the 'D' is standing to straight up for plate 5. The D in the Penny Red from plate 5 slants a little. Also, the arched part of the 'D' pretty consistent on plate 5 and thicker at the bottom than at the top in plate 12. Furthermore, if you take the small white dot-like area in the lower part of the frame as a point of reference, the vertical of the 'D' from plate 5 lines up just inside that white dot, whereas it lines up just outside that dot on plate 12. Below picture claims to be of a plate 5 Black and Red. http://maltesex.com/cgi-bin/doctarr...1753.JPG~~~~It looks rather like the red is a plate 12 example This looks like it is a plate 5 http://maltesex.com/cgi-bin/doctarr...5939.JPG~~~~ |

No, you can even see the doubling of the 'T' not repeated in the 'D' that shows your overlay does not match.
Edit: the stars also give me a headache because they show doubling due to the lack of a match. |

Again doubling of the 'T' and stars due to overlaying the 'D' and making the posted stamp prevail. |

So, your usual trickery shows what it is, trickery.
By the way, in your second picture, the 'D' also shows doubling. |

There are two states of the TD stamp in the plate 5 printings. I agree with NSK's first post on page 3, in that the two side by side stamps are different plates. The second link NSK provides shows State 2. The image below shows state 1, and is from the same site: |

If you are a Penny Red fan, I see that the auction site Brixton Chrome has a bunch of them on their auction tonight. Seems to be some great potential deals there. The auction closes at 10:30 Toronto time tonight (UTC -5). I buy a lot there, and have never been disappointed. Chris, the owner, who advertises here (see top of web page), is honest, very knowledgeable, and reliable. You can find it here. Pages 5 to 8 are all Penny Reds!! https://brixtonchrome.com/collectio...tions?page=5 |

Quote: Assuming it is a TA then plate 28 is a candidate Thank you for looking. Seems to me that there is a downward hook on the right side of the upper vertical of the " T ". To me the I 's are straighter and no downward curve. However, not the best candidate due to wear and tear. |

I wonder how wide the bottom margin is. It appears very wide and shows no trace of an adjoining stamp. That would suggest a bottom-row stamp, hence TA.
