Hi Stamps4Life,

I've had a good look but I can't find a plate I'm happy with. I've checked plates 1 to 60, and checked plates 12 to 45 twice.

Is the second letter a C or a G? I've looked at both but would like to know what you think it is.

The vertical lines in the right squares should be a big clue shouldn't they?

Plate 31 has the vertical guide lines. But the letters are not good? I think the ray flaws too at NW 10 o'clock and NE 1 o'clock. I think definitely a " G " .

On another look I'd say plate 31

Yes I'd say so, based on the weak corner frames, the weak left frame, and the positions of the letters.

I'll be sending mine to you at this rate!

Well done Stamps4Life.

Apologies Rod, I missed your last post

Me too Rod!

I've got 'just a few' 1d reds to look at, at some stage.

Well, there is a lot to learn on this plating. It's hard for me as I don't have many good examples or ones to choose from. But this thread has been a help - thanks Bobby and all those who take the time to jump in.

I've been mostly doing MX cancels as it's a narrower field as far as choices and alph. But, I then also miss out on getting better on the other alphabets - my big weakness - but not my only. Haha.

The MX cancels are a good way to train up on these fascinating stamps.

It's such a vast field!

Glad you enjoy them Rod

Plate 63? I see NE frame extension but no mention of it? Weak left Frame line.

EDIT: On second thought, maybe NE corner is a re-cut? Its late .....

Hi Rod - I've attached a shade image for interest as I think its neat to see the imprint markings... Its the grey one. Also another to maybe aid in the postmark. Looks like the number may be centered in the diamond? Its messy with those other lines incoming - yes?

Looks like a double strike of the London Inland Section 1862 nr. 5 cancel.
The central positioning in the diamond makes it a single cipher. The top lacks the curvature of the 3 and the lower part appears too high to be the 3.
