Interesting article in the WSJ today...

Why Stamp Collecting Is Suddenly Back in Vogue https://www.wsj.com/articles/why-st...-11591358415

Unfortunately there's a paywall but it's nice to see the hobby getting widespread attention!

Yes, it is difficult to read. Sentences and paragraphs are " heading in too many directions."

I don't like it that the APS says stamp collections aren't worth much so you should just donate them to us. At least that's what this seemed to say.

The link rslny posted does NOT have the exact same text as the WSJ. WSJ would never publish such a poorly written article. The text was copied without copyright permission and then several words in each sentence were changed. Maybe they thought this would be enough to make it a new work - not.

Thanks for the explanation. Now having said that the original article was poorly/strangely written.

I wonder who proofread the story. It does not appear to be WSJ style.

Same story without the paywall: https://apkmetro.com/why-stamp-coll...ack-in-vogue

After attempting to read the above story on the apkmetro.com website, and then browsing some of the other equally badly written stories on the same site, I suspect that they specialise in "borrowing" articles from reputable sources, by first translating them to another language and then back to English using something like Google translate, which would account for the poor quality of the English in the version of the article linked above.

For example, another article published by the WSJ starts:
Democrats charged with drawing up the party's 2020 policy platform say they will push for

The same article as published by apkmetro:
Democrats charged with drawing up the occasion's 2020 coverage platform say they may push

It is interesting that apkmetro site is completely anonymous. There is no indication of ownership and even the domain is registered anonymously, and the few stories I browsed no longer included the writer's name.

Probably best to avoid this site, to me it seems like a clear case of news piracy, I doubt that the WSJ is even aware that they exist.

And there's also this gem: " Each males assume stamp amassing's nondigital nature is compelling." I certainly do.

There is so much of this crapola now. I read a lot of automotive articles and so many sites that have them appear to be mainstream until you realize that they are written so poorly and the grammar leaves you scratching your head. Maybe just looking to get the click?
