1292 Thomas Paine - Black Instead Of Blue Black

I have found a 1292 40¢ Thomas Paine stamp that appears to be black instead of blue black. Have others seen 1292 with this coloration complication? Thoughts as to why this is? ...sun exposure? ...bad blend of ink? ...other?
