Here are the 4 covers which annotate some of the first major US's space achievements following Sputnik. The examples are early cachet makers and non cachet versions ,the air mails are mainly from Patrick Air Force Base. More to follow, Enjoy.

Here are a couple more early Sarzin covers ,one of unknown origin to me and a cachet less Air Mail Stamped envelope type.
Now for the stamped envelopes Air mail types the most prevalent Cachet makers to process through PAFB to my knowledge where Swanson, Space Craft and H,Flick.
Mr Flick generally used the normal airmail type Envelope with postage added. Also both the Cape Canaveral and PAFB type covers for Echo 1 are listed in Mc Mahan's Philatelic History of the Conquest of Space but CC was canceled with a PM and PAFB with AM. Enjoy

Thanks for posting the early space flight covers - I'm enjoying the show!

A question: Do you have a sense of how soon after the various launch dates the cachets were added?

The Explorer I cover, for example, lists "Scientific Data Supplied by Satellite Leads to Discovery of the Van Allen Radiation Belts." This did not happen immediately, it took the analysis of lots of data from the satellite before the belts could be confirmed so it makes me curious re: the timing of the cachet.

I cannot say for sure on the green cachet cover. Now for the black and white cover it appears that the text could have been added at a later date once the Van Allen Belts where confirmed?

Kristian Birkeland, Carl Størmer, and Nicholas Christofilos had investigated the possibility of trapped charged particles before the Space Age. Explorer 1 and Explorer 3 confirmed the existence of the belt in early 1958 under James Van Allen at the University of Iowa. The trapped radiation was first mapped by Explorer 4, Pioneer 3 and Luna 1.

Ok so here is an example of Sarzin's light weight metal cachet design affixed to the envelope.
I do not know when he started this practice, but I like it. Also included is a Robert Rank (Space Voyage Covers)version of the same type.

Ok here we have 3 examples of the Sarzin metallic covers affixed to the typical First Day Of Issue # C 76 10 cent Air Mail released September 9 1969. Two of the examples are canceled on the one year anniversary date ,one of which also bears the Kennedy Space Center one year Apollo 11 NASA Cachet. The third example is the typical FDC with the colored KSC Hand cancels for launch and splashdown for Apollo 14. Was the Sarzinr release prior to or in conjunction with the stamp I do not know. But Sarzin was on his game for sure. Enjoy.

Why thanks ,I am merely the curator of my fathers collection, whom was a savvy collector, editor for a philatelic news letter ................ I just want to display the fruits of his labor for enjoyment due to his connection with the space program and mine.

Just now seeing this. Great space covers! Those may be the first ones I've seen from the 1950s. I wish others would post their early ones.
