#1631 – 1976 13c Spirit Of '76 (Set Of 3)

I'm a coin collector but acquired this stamp with a pot of coins can someone help me on this particular error. In addition,this 3 part stamp is framed.
I can't seem to find another example online anywhere & I'm unsure of the value, any ideas on value?

Looks like a folded stamp to me not an error.

Wkusa2 thanks for replying, I'm suprised on the number of non-responses as the coin forum is very different. So from your comment I can only speculate that a folded stamp is not considered an error, is that correct? I'm confused on what is considered an error then? It seems it was done during the manufacturing process possibly got stuck or hung up in the machine? So are folded stamps common &/or desirable to collectors?

Like I said I collect coins not stamps & in coins the issue is classified by what's wrong or different with the coin, however, an error is still an error.

From what I can see on the pic, it looks like pieces are added to the strip rather than there being creases or folds. The name printed in the corner reinforces the idea that this is someone's idea of artwork.

Would it be possible to see a scan of just the back of the stamps? That would be helpful in figuring out what has happened with this strip.

it might be a pre-perfing paper fold but am image of the back would indeed be usefull

Hard to tell when framed, etc, but looks like an artistic creation to simulate a 3-D effect. Left stamp normal, middle stamp with a cut-out of the drummer from a second stamp mounted over it with a thin spacer to make it stand out (note the doubled top to the head). Then right stamp with the fifer cut out and a double-thick spacer behind it to give even more 3-D effect. The matting gives the space for the added depth. Purely artistic and not a production error, IMO.

It certainly looks like there's more than three stamps there.

It's difficult to understand what hass happened without removing it from the frame and photographing/scanning both sides.

I think John Becker is right. This is some kind of art using parts from multiple copies of the stamp. Interesting art form. Could be done with lots of stamps. Still not an error.
