Scanned below is an interesting special delivery airmail cover from my postal history collection with single usage of Scott #CE2, which was issued February 10, 1936. The cover was mailed in Long Beach, California, USA on February 24, 1936 and traveled to Kansas City, Missouri, then Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, then finally to Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, USA, by plane and train.

US Novice.
"Fee claimed by Office of First Address"
would that not be included in the franking value of the special delivery stamp? Why the handstamp?

This stamp pays a combination of 6 cents airmail and 10 cents of special delivery. The special delivery portion paid for one attempt at special delivery. The handstamp "Fee claimed ..." was applied at Huntingdon, PA to indicate that an attempt was being made (successful), but if the cover were undeliverable or forwarded, then it would NOT be given special delivery service on any subsequent handling by the post office - and handled as ordinary mail - unless a second special delivery fee were paid.

Marvelous. Thanks.
I had to think about that, at first thinking the letter carrier would have to take the handstamp with him,
Then realising if unsuccessful, then the office handstamp would be negated, and advice of relocation written on cover.
