Stamp Scott #64, #64A, #64B 1861

Hello,

can someone help me with this question?

The 3c on the right side, could it be a #64, #64a or #64b?
It has a diferent color of the others, I think it is pink, if yes, but what kind of pink? And what do you think is the value of this stamp?

This is a complicated issue for determining shades. Especially from an image posted on a clear background. The only way to positively identify the shade is by comparing it side by side with certified examples. There are more listed shades for this stamp than I'd care to type.

Stallzer is correct-- there is just no way to anyone here, or anywhere else to be able to tell you if you have one of the pinks. Best bet is to send it in for a certificate. The cost of APS certificates are reasonable, and that would be your best bet. I've found over the years that if you went to a stamp show and asked dealers, they probably wouldn't be able to ID it correctly, either, and in fact, I've taken a few home from dealers as a favor and ran scanned the stamps and ran the scans through Photoshop Elements and found that at least in one case that it was not a pink.

Remember that light rose, lilacs all look "pinky", but not if they are in under a bright white light next to a rose pink or a pink. It's always best to have the stamps on a cover with a 1861 year date, then if the stamp looks pink, it's a much better chance that it's pink. Pink was the first color used in this issue, and only used in printing in August of 1861. There are some "near pink" hues in '61 though, that also aren't pink.

So bottom line, good luck.
