What is it that you would like to know about this stamp? Have you tried to identify it? Is it a question about the design, color or perforations? What kind of information are you looking to get?

This could be a number of issues, depending on the watermark which I can't make out from your image of the back.

First of all, unless it is cut from postal stationery, it should have perforations. I think I can see some perf remnants on the left side, close to the lower left corner.

I think the colour can cut down the options to:

1. SG 196 dark red brown, 197 brownish red and 198 brick red. Perf 13, wmk would be a single line "1" about half the height of the stamp.

2. SG 200 - brick red and 201 brownish red, perf 13, no wmk.

Give the loss of practically all its perforation, its value is probably minimal.

waelshami,
What do you see when you hold the stamp up to strong backlighting?
Is there a watermark visible?

My one penny DLR newspaper wrappings have a striated pattern when held to the light.

The poor quality of the impression and the lack of any evidence of perforations at the widest margin points were my guides.

The DLR stamps (except the 6d) are generally notorious for very narrow margins.

De La Rue. They made the die for the 1d stamp you've asked about.

waelshami, are you able to upload a photo with bright light shining through from the back of the stamp?

Thanks waelshami, the striated pattern I mentioned above is clearly visible - the parallel vertical lines running the length of the paper.

That fits with my newspaper wrapper cutouts - as suggested by Bobby de La Rue.

There was some discussion, about this time last year, on an item similar to this.

Newspaper wrapper.

I'm a newby now, but I've been lurking for a while.
