So I have this embossed envelope and I am fairly confident it it s Die J for the following reasons:
Both 3's are horizontal.
E of CENTS is closer to the inner circle than the N.
Center bar of the E of CENTS and of STATES is high.
N of CENTS is tall.
Tops of the T's are short.
Head exhibits an extra lock of hair by the ear (four strands of hair below the ear).
Nose is long and hooked.
Rounded point of the chin is more prominent.
Lettering is thin and well defined.
WMK 35

Now what is different:
Head measures 9.25mm
I think the color is dark violet. middle stamp

I recommend you ignore the color, as the second printing exists in a spectrum of dk violet-to-purple, even though the catalogs simply calls it purple.

The watermark is a better way of determining the color of the stamp, odd as that may seem. Watermark 19 and 20 are dark violet. Anything watermark 28 and after, is purple.
