Columbia, a uniquely American goddess".

Just about every American citizen is familiar with Lady Liberty. Most though are probably unaware that the allegorical figure of Liberty traces her roots through early nineteenth century to Columbia, who encompassed all the values of our new nation. This presentation illustrates her evolution from 1800 till the present through her earliest appearances on fiscal paper, revenue, newspaper and postage stamps.
