Hello all Stampmasters,

I recently found this strip of 4 #566 100 Lira Stamps from Italy.
The Cancellation indicates that these were used as airmail.

Is this regular Usage? Or a wrong usage of the stamps?

Any Info on this would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

I assume any stamp may be used on airmail covers,as long as the rate is respected and "by airmail"(in any language)written in a corner

400 Lire was a lot in 1952.Must of been a heavy letter. For instance a 20g letter for Brazil would of cost 100L.Uncommon strip with that cancel.

These stamps are from 1948. Most likely used on airmail parcels

I have one more question:
Look at the Cancellation, it says "Milano Ferr. Corr."

What is the "Ferr. Corr." stand for? What is its meaning?

Thanks!

Ferr. may be an abbreviation of ferrovie = railways
Corr. may be an abbreviation for corriere = carrier, messenger.

A guess would be that it was cancelled at a railway station in Milan. Maybe even sent from there by courrier.

Thanks Vayolene
I recall questioning "Ferro" (Iron Spoor/rails) text on a CDS years ago.
I searched my database without success
Nice to see it confirmed

Nice!
Thank you!
So could one assume that this was carried by train?
Or just that it was cancelled at a train station?
