Assistance required please. I have Michel Germany Specialized but I am finding it hard to identify the Police departments. Can some one assist me please. Thank you, Lofty
I don't think anyone can help you without the stamps on the front. Michel writes that the perfins are in original size. I don't think there is another solution (after sorting by shape) than to measure them and compare them with those in the catalog.
You can try this experiment. Scan the Michel page with the POL's. Invert the colors with a graphics program. This will make the holes white. Print out. Then you overlay your stamp on each image. The one(s) that makes all the holes in your stamp white are a possible match.
It should work by just laying the stamp on the Michel page but I think it is easier to line up the holes when the holes are white also.
I would recommend using the "lining up on the Michel page" for identification.
It works fine for me. One caveat is that it will not work if you have the English translation volume. Some years ago, I discovered this while working with some new acquisitions.
If you measure the first POL shown (Gleiwitz), it is 21 mm wide in Michel German language version. When you measure it on the English language version, it is 20 mm.
