No one is addressing the other stamps photographed. The used 498's are worth (on the outside) maybe 5c apiece. Some would say 5c for the lot is too much. I wouldn't disagree with that. PLEASE walk away from this 'deal'!!!!

No, the SPA did not merge with APS, though many of us held membership in both organizations. Mismanagement of the SPA Sales Department led to insolvency. One of the biggest creditors, Herman Herst, Jr. threatened to sue and the organization went into a form of bankruptcy leaving most of the sellers in the Sales Department with losses to some degree.
The SPA Journal was their monthly publication. .

So far we've seen 1 stamp that may or may not have value and 4 that are as common as dirt. Are these the Plums of the collection? Could the OP shed some light on how big of a collection? World wide or just US? More pictures?

Thanks for the correction, jarnick. A little research jogged my memory that The Stamp Herald was the journal of the original Southern Philatelic Association.
