Can someone please tell me the difference between US Stamp 1304 and 1304c redrawn stamp. I can not find much about it, please help! Thanks

Showing both sheets and coils:
1283 and 1304 - 5 o'clock shadow George
1283B and 1304C - clean shaven George

If I recall correctly, the "5 o'clock shadow" Washington was re-issued in the latter "clean-shaven" variety as there were complaints from the public that Mr. Washington looked rather haggard and not dignified enough in the original.

Here are the bulletin board fliers for 1283 and 1283B, the later notes: "The new stamp will be engraved by a different technique to remove the harsh highlights and soften the shadow areas."
