If you are planning to sell that cover it needs a Philatelic Foundation cert. |

10 brownie points, for posting the results of your journey, we don't always get that. Look forward to reading the further result. Being a drop letter, would that suggest the Postmaster had the snow machine? |

I doubt the postmaster would have a Snow machine otherwise I feel we would expect to see it used commonly and not worthy of much comment. Both usages are from large US cities. Dutch US Stamp Collector's cover is to a lawyer and the one linked by rodgcam is to what I suspect to be a company. I could see the machine being used for mailings of advertising to a small audience or even billing or somesuch. The needed postage could be bought just before mailing. The machine is small enough that someone's mail clerk could take it to a post office and work there at the customer tables.
Dutch US Stamp Collector, there is a space on the PF submission form to add additional questions or requests. Good luck!
Interesting comment from Lawrence implying that other affixing machines existed at the time.

Yikes! It was way too heavy for me, really glad you have found something of information gold. I only found out about Mr. Snow yesterday. Appreciate a verbal road test after you have read it ! |

will do, or scan it if possible.
I got it just in case, small chance still, it turns our real. a original patent to go with it would be nice, almost looks like the start of an exhibition ;-) |

Wow! Thank you DSC, that is VERY generous of you to broadcast what is an expensive manuscript. Now to work out how it works...... As an aside, the the printers name SPOTTISWOODE Immediately had my attention, I had seen a Cinderella back in 2015 with this name. I can now marry the two I wonder if De la Rue did the engraving.........? |
