Timbre in French means both a stamp and being crazy. The expression came from the hand stamping action which implies that if a person is 'Timbré' or stamped it means they have lost a slate (British expression). How about that for some trivia...oh wait you guys probably already know this.

I recently got back to collecting and was looking for a good place for discussions besides reddit or 'that other place with the obnoxious sheriff' and Stampcommunity.org was recommended on a youtube video I saw.

I am building my own printed catalogs to display stamps in chronological order and not as separated sections like Airmail or commemoratives and the like so I can actually see the real chronology of a particular country.

At the moment I focus on US, France, Jordan, Iraq, Japan, Switzerland but otherwise I collect almost all countries.

Welcome Monsoon,

I almost said "bonjour" but that might imply that I actually speak French, when I just have a tourist level familiarity with it, from several community college level conversational classes and trips to France, Guadeloupe, Rwanda and Republic of Congo where I butchered my efforts to use my knowledge.

I enjoyed your word play with timbre and the "slate loose" Brit reference - most refer to the slate tiles they use.

You will find lots of expertise and many fun people here on this site. Let me know if you have questions about the site - I am trying to figure out many thins right now, so maybe we can help each other.

Monsoon,

Here in Indiana we refer to afflicted people as being a few bricks short of a full load. Welcome to our glorious affliction.

Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences.

Welcome.
There have been many like you and will be many more. Some words of advice.
1. Try to make clear and specific thread titles. (most of us get better at it.) See #2
2. Use the search function link at the top of each page. The site uses the Google search funtion that you will see. It is wonderful. Many of your questions will have been asked and answered in the past. For your threads going forward, with good thread titles, they will be easier to find in the search at later dates.

I've heard that one with a less polite word than "outhouse".

I'm reminded of something that Buffy said about Faith on Buffy the Vampire Slayer: "The girl's not playing with a full deck, Giles. She has almost no deck. She has a three."

Welcome, Monsoon! I don't suppose you got your name from Sheila Chandra's wonderful band from the 1980s?
