Rod222, I like seeing old photo of Scott Stamp and Coin from your May 2022 post. My imagination runs to thinking potential collector youth standing in front. |

Quote: My imagination runs to thinking potential collector youth standing in front. Imagination is HUGE part of why I love the hobby. I go to all sorts of places and times in the world, as I sit at my desk and stamps. Who needs TV? |

The ASDA National Stamp Show was still being held at the Armory in the 60's; I went to several. I loved it there, and it had a balcony so one could stand above and take in the whole show. Had great history there, too. Park Ave and 34th St. Alas, that building is long gone. |

Yesterday, I was watching US "Pawn Stars" A customer brought in an 1861 Washington Postage Stamp encased in a brass? coin holder. It was appraised at circa $5000, embossed on back "White & Co"
Fascinating stuff. Is there anywhere I can read about these please? Any links?

Thank you. Not aware of how old the Pawn Stars edition, It was appraised at Circa $5,000 I thought I heard the specialist say there were only around a thousand surviving, anyhow Rick bought the encased stamp for $2,000 It was similar to this one "White The Hatter " What intrigued me was how Gault managed to die press, and crimp in a circle the brass holder, a triumph of engineering in my opinion, adding to the fact the fragility of the stamp, and the Mica silicate shield. https://www.coinbooks.org/v22/esylu...2n32a30.html |

These were used on War Ration Book Two: Extremely common as everyone seems to have kept their used ration book remnants. These fall into a curious category. Clearly not postage or revenue stamps, they were still produced by the U.S. government for an official purpose, although not containing a value. No doubt some will adamantly call them Cinderellas, and some will be equally loud to claim otherwise. |
