On May 3, 1982 Switzerland issued two EUROPA stamps with the theme of "Historical Events". The 40 centimes value (Sc #715) of the set depicts a medieval oath of eternal fealty.

From wikipedia, "In medieval Europe, the swearing of fealty took the form of an oath made by a vassal, or subordinate, to his lord...Usually, the lord also promised to provide for the vassal in some form, either through the granting of a fief or by some other manner of support."

Here is the USA's June 8, 1959 4c domestic letter rate commemorative (Sc #1130) recognizing the centenary of the Comstock (silver) Lode at Virginia City, Nevada. Stamp depicts Canadian miner Henry Tompkins Comstock (1820-1870) talking with two associates.

From wikipedia, "The Comstock Lode is notable not just for the immense fortunes it generated and the large role those fortunes had in the growth of Nevada and San Francisco, but also for the advances in mining technology that it spurred, such as square net timbering and the Washoe process for extracting silver from ore. The mines declined after 1874, although underground mining continued sporadically into the 1920's."

On August 23, 1999 Estonia issued issued this 3.60 kroon stamp (Sc #366) to mark the 10th anniversary of "The Baltic Way" demonstration in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

From europeana.eu, "On 23 August 1989, two million people held hands to form a human chain over 600 kilometers long linking three capital cities - Tallinn in Estonia, Riga in Latvia and Vilnius in Lithuania. This peaceful political demonstration became known as 'The Baltic Way'. The Baltic Way was a massive demonstration for freedom, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the signing of the 1939 Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact between Hitler and Stalin, which had paved the way for the Soviet occupation of the Baltic States. One in four people in the three Baltic States took part - young and old, in some cases several generations of the same families."
