I have some SG 128 spares and one has more red. Scott does not list it but noticed SG had a plum shade. It is no real premium.

It could of been in the sun, it could be soaked in warm water ,it could be soaked with lighter fluid ,Unless a catalog has a statement to color, figure it was done by outside means .

For the benefit of those who don't have an SG close at hand, the base 128 is dull purple; 128a is chalk-surfaced paper (128aw is watermark inverted CSP - big premium); and 128b is plum (issued Feb. 1908).

Agree.

I may be incorrect, but I have always opined that these issues were colour fugitive, and the majority (sadly) soaked in warm or hot water.
