its a postcard for London, UK to Buffalo,

could not be delivered and ended up in Buffalo DLO office, received the handstamp there and was returned to london. return adress marked with red crayon and purple boxed stamped in london

my question is, I have never seen this buffalo DLO marking, is it real? rare? any other info is more than welcomed

Looks official as a canceling machine slug. More should be out there.

This cancel is listed in Hanmer's "A Collectors Guide to U.S. Machine Postmarks, 1871-1925" 3rd ed, 1989, as an International machine marking, rarity of RR, very few known.

"International Service Markings", Machine Cancel Society Study #30, 1999, lists this mark known from Sept 1905 to June 22, 1909, so nearly 4 years. Still, a very uncommon and desirable machine postmark.
