This May 9, 1947 50 centimes airmail stamp (Sc #C16) of Monaco depicts U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt holding a stamp between his thumb and one of his other fingers (6 of them, counting the thumb) as he examines it with a magnifying glass.

Definitives, famous visitors - 16v

Willem Hesselsz de Vlamingh (1640 c.#8201;1698) was a Dutch sea captain who explored the central west coast of New Holland (Australia) in the late 17th century, where he landed in what is now Perth on the Swan River. The mission proved fruitless, but he charted parts of the continent's western coast.

The stamp shows the bust of captain Willem at right and the comand room of his ship at second plane with navigation artifacts, including a maritime telescope

Here is the 18c value (Sc #544) from the Philippines's May 22, 1950 set of 3 identically designed stamps commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Philatelic Association of the Philippines. As on the Monegasque stamp shown four postings above, U.S. President F.D.R. is holding a magnifying glass in his right hand and a postage stamp in his left hand.

On April 20, 1970 Australia issued a se-tenant strip of five, 5c stamps to commemorate the bicentenary of Captain James Cook's landing on the eastern coast of the island. One of these stamps (Sc #478) depicts a sextant.
