This is bait and switch advertising which is deceptive and should be band by eBay
Unfortunately you will find the same practice on other sites. For example I was looking for a Michel Ganzsachen Europa West. Amazon offered a 2003/2004 book. Buried in the fine print you find the book is actually a 1983 edition yet the picture and lead description clearly say 2003/2004.

The only thing you can do is thoroughly read the fine print and message the seller first for a clearer description before purchasing.

Can you not make a query, that is broadcast on eBay in the advert?

"Fine print says 1983 advert is 2003, please explain"

Ganzsachen-Katalog Europa West 2003/04
German Edition | by Michel | Jan 1, 2003

The above is what is displayed on Amazon
You click on the item expecting to see the same product and you discover you need to click on another page

Reading the fine print you discover that what you are actully purchasing is "Available is the 1983 EUROPA WEST. Schwaneburger Verlag 1983 softcover. IN GERMAN." and NOT the original book pictured.

Standard practice on eBay with lots of low-margin booksellers... they'll use whatever stock image they have in hand.

Frustrating practice, but keeps costs down, and it's nice to pick up older books for very little over shipping cost. Most of the time it doesn't matter, but I've been stung before.

If a particular edition of a book is of importance to me (or if it's expensive), I'll buy from a listing where it's clear that what's pictured is what I'll be getting.

The Amazon button says click to 'See All Buying Options' and then show any potential matches (in this case the book title). I always considered the 'See All Buying Options' as meaning that they did not have exactly what I searched on.
